Interest in telecommuting high

Would you want to switch to telecommuting? graph of japanese statisticsgoo Research recently looked at telecommuting, a survey that was reported upon by japan.internet.com.

Demographics

Between the 14th and 17th of February 2012 1,083 members of the goo Research online monitor group completed a private internet-based questionnaire. 52.9% of the sample were male, 16.5% in their teens, 18.3% in their twenties, 21.7% in their thirties, 16.3% in their forties, 15.2% in their fifties, and 12.0% aged sixty or older.

I should really do it more myself as we have a system that management is keen to promote, but I?ve only tried it for two or three days a couple of years ago. I?m keen to lose the commute, but my main problem is focus!

Research results

Of the initial sample, 52.1% or 564 people were in either full or part-time employment in the public or private sector.

Q1: Would you want to switch from commuting to telecommuting? (Sample size=564)

Would like to, but no such system at work 44.7%
Don?t want to 29.3%
Can?t say 20.9%
Already telecommuting 2.8%
Plan to switch very soon 2.3%

Those 281 people already telecommuting or wanting to telecommute were asked why. 179 people said that they wanted to work at their own pace, 149 people didn?t want the waste of time on the physical commute, and 81 people said they wanted to spend more time with their family.

Of the other 494 people, 216 were either students or self-employed, so the other 278 (unemployed and homemakers) were asked if they wanted to telecommute. 56.1% said they wanted to telecommute, and another 21.6% said they wanted to work regardless of if were telecommuting or physical commuting.

There were also questions on cloud office services Google Apps and Microsoft Office360, but you have to pay to find out the answers!
